How to set up a fair carpool rotation

  1. Fill in the roster first. Collect every family's drivers, phone numbers, and how many open seats their car has.
  2. Split mornings and afternoons. Many parents can do one but not the other, so assigning AM and PM separately makes the schedule easier to fill.
  3. Rotate evenly. With four families, each one takes about five slots a week. Count slots per family at the bottom of each week to keep it fair.
  4. Agree on swaps. Cross out, initial, and text the group when you trade a day, so everyone knows who's driving.

When an online carpool is easier

A paper schedule goes stale the first time someone swaps a day. With an iLunch carpool, families claim drives from one shared link, everyone sees changes right away, and drivers get reminders. It's free, with no app and no accounts.

Common questions

Is this carpool schedule template free?

Yes. Download, print, and copy it as often as you like. No email address or account is required.

How many families does it fit?

The roster has four rows, which suits most school carpools. For bigger groups, print a second copy or use a free online carpool on iLunch.

Does it work for sports and activities, not just school?

Yes. Write the practice or activity name and times in the top box and use the AM and PM slots for drop-off and pick-up.

How do I keep a carpool fair?

Track how many slots each family drives each week and rotate who takes the less convenient times. Separating mornings from afternoons also helps.
